JOIN US FOR GREAT COMPETITION

Christian Heritage Sports (CHS Sports) started in 1995 with a summer soccer camp, led by Jeff Paterson. The camp attracted over 25 home school kids from Christian Heritage School. Beginning in September of 1995 we began a physical education program of, one day a week athletics. Every two months we changed sports, including basketball, soccer, football, tennis, softball, and other recreational activities.

After two years of PE classes, we found other home school groups/schools that were competing in basketball. At that point CHS joined those schools and helped form the Southern California Christian Athletic League. In the early 2000’s as we were adding several sports to the league, God continued to direct the program, blessing it immensely. In 2003 with the help of an attorney friend we were able to create a 501c3 nonprofit organization, California Home School Sports (CHSS). One of the main purposes was to create an open door for local businesses and sponsors to support CHSS and allow those entities to receive a tax credit. By 2006, CHSS unanimously became the league for home school teams in Southern California.

Starting with the 2013–14 school year we had grown to having eight home school groups/schools that are members of The CHSS League in Southern California. We now have teams competing in basketball, volleyball, football, baseball, softball, and track & field.

In addition to the league of teams, California Home School Sports hosts three home school championship events that bring in home schoolers from many areas of the state of California and neighboring states. The events are The March Gladness Basketball Tournament, The Home School Volleyball Championships, and the Home School Track and Field Invitational.

Mission Statement

California Home School Sports desires that every home- schooled child will have the opportunity to participate in physical education classes and athletic competition. The sports program is designed around Biblical principles that instill Godly character traits. Our desire is to have each child improve to the best of their ability, always improving their God given talents. Each coach is being asked to take an active role in teaching the fruits of the spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-24. In addition, the coaches are asked to lead by example by putting God first in everything, Col.3:23. Our ultimate goal is that each person is improving their talents as they learn Christian character traits through participation in a variety of sport activities.
