Key info
- A police history record check is conducted against police records held in all Australian states and territories.
- Record checks are often used for employment purposes, including occupation-related licensing.
- If you are applying for the volunteer/concession rate, section 5 of the application form (PDF, 840KB) must be completed by an authorised officer from the volunteer organisation before you attend a service centre.
- Tasmania Police does not conduct police record checks for overseas applicants or for Australian immigration purposes. For these purposes, please visit the Australian Federal Police website.

About applying for a national police record check
You must apply for a national police check by submitting a completed application form (PDF, 840KB) at a service centre.
If you need a police check for volunteer or charity work, you may be eligible to pay a concession rate.
National Police Record Checks will not be sent to overseas addresses.
If you need to apply for a National Police Record and Fingerprint Check, you must contact Criminal History Services on (03) 6173 2928.

What you need to apply
To apply for a National Police Record Check, you will need:
- a completed application form (PDF, 840KB)
- proof of identity
- to pay a fee.
Completing the application form
- All identifying details on the form are mandatory. Please ensure you complete all fields including your name, residential and postal address, date of birth and contact details.
- To finalise the form, you will need to sign section 6 'Statement of Consent and Indemnity' in front of a Service Tasmania representative at the time you submit your application form.
Volunteers
If you are applying as a volunteer you may be eligible for the concession rate:
- You must first contact the organisation you are volunteering for to check if they are eligible to receive this rate.
- If they are registered to receive the concession rate, the authorised person of the organisation must complete section 5 of the application form prior to visiting a service centre.
Can I apply?
Anyone can apply for a police check, if you are under 16 years old a guardian must witness your application.
If you live in another state or territory and need a National Police Record Check to use in that state or territory, you must contact your local police.
Proving your identity
You must provide one Commencement Document, one Primary document and one Secondary document.
All identity documents must be original and include evidence of your full legal name, date of birth and a photograph of you. If a photograph is not provided on the identity documents presented, a certified passport style photograph can be accepted in addition to the three required documents.
